Night Construction Project Scheduled Again On 422 Near Valley Forge

Travel restrictions will be in effect beginning at 7 p.m. each night on 422 in the Valley Forge area.

VALLEY FORGE, PA -- Nighttime travel restrictions are scheduled next week on U.S. 422 and Route 23 in the Valley Forge area, the Pennsylvania Department of Transportation (PennDOT) announced in a news release Thursday.

This work is associated with the $97.4 million project that began in February 2016 to build new, wider bridges to improve travel and carry U.S. 422 motorists over the Schuylkill River, Norfolk Southern Railroad, South Trooper Road and Schuylkill River Trail in West Norriton, Upper Merion and Lower Providence townships, PennDOT said.

The project includes improving U.S. 422 between the Route 23 and Route 363 interchanges; upgrading Route 23 at its interchange with U.S. 422; and improving ramps at the Route 363, Route 23 and First Avenue interchanges, according to PennDOT.

The project is scheduled to finish in May 2020, authorities estimate.

U.S. 422 will be reduced from two lanes to one in both directions between First Avenue and Route 363 on Sunday, May 22, through Thursday, May 26, for shoulder reconstruction and paving, and drainage installation, officials said.

The lane closure on U.S. 422 east will be in place each night from 7:00 PM to 5:00 AM the following morning. The westbound lane closure will occur from 9:00 PM to 6:00 AM the following morning.

In addition, there will be a 15-minute traffic stoppage on westbound and eastbound U.S. 422 between the Route 23 and Route 363 interchanges on Thursday (May 26) at approximately 12:01 AM to install an overhead utility line across the highway.

There is a possibility a second traffic stoppage may be needed if the operation cannot be completed with one stoppage.

On Route 23, lane closures will be in place between Moore Road and North Gulph Road in Upper Merion Township on Sunday, May 22, through Thursday, May 26, from 7:00 PM to 5:00 AM the following morning for paving and median removal. Lane restrictions also may occur on ramps at the Route 23/U.S. 422 Interchange.

The contractor’s work schedule is dependent on the weather.
