Pennsylvania Tree to Grace Rockefeller Center This Holiday Season

The 85-foot Norway spruce will be cut in Danville on Wednesday.

This holiday season, a Pennsylvania tree will be at the center of the holiday magic in Rockefeller Center.

The 85-foot Norway spruce, which is 46 feet in diameter and weighs an estimated 13 tons, is scheduled to be cut down Wednesday, Nov. 5, at the Danville home of Dan Sigafoos and Rachel Drosdick-Sigafoos.

What does it take to cut down a tree that big? After it’s cut, it will be hoisted by a crane and placed onto a 115-foot trailer.

The tree will then be brought into Manhattan on a flatbed truck and put up on Friday, Nov. 7 This year’s Rockefeller Center tree lighting -- the 82nd -- will be Dec. 3.

Last year’s Rockefeller Center tree was a 76-foot Norway spruce from New Jersey.
