Run From 'The Walking Dead'
The hit television series about survivors in a post-apocalyptic world overrun by zombies returns for its third season Sunday night, but Philadelphia-area fans will soon have a chance to simulate the experience in person.
"The Walking Dead," AMC TV's hit show set in a postapocalyptic world infested with zombies, returns for its third season on Sunday night.
For those who are looking to experience the show's premise somewhat more viscerally, the Wells Fargo Center in Philadelphia is the place to be on Oct. 27.
That evening, would be "survivors" can participate in "The Walking Dead Escape: Live The Apocalypse," in which participants can pay $78 per person to navigate their way through the "Zombie infected Evacuation Zone," a roughly 40 minute obstacle course.

If you prefer to chase rather than be chased, $78 also affords you the chance to become one of the undead "walkers" who attempt to "infect" the "survivors" who are running the obstacle course in timed waves.
"The goal of the Walker is to haunt your assigned grounds as brutally and as brainlessly and brutally as possible," advises the event's frequently asked questions page. "Walkers" also receive a professional makeup session and "training" prior to the event.

Those willing to shell out additional cash—$130, to be exact—can become a zombie "Horde Hero," allowing them to "haunt the course wherever and whenever they please" for the duration of the evening-long affair. "Horde Heroes" also receive an "extended professional makeup session."
All classes of participants are required to be at least 14 years of age. Spectator-only seating is available for $25.
The Philadelphia staging of "The Walking Dead Escape" follows the event's premiere in San Diego this past summer [see video, above].
Whether you intend to watch tonight's season premiere or run from the zombies in person, you can make sure you're ready for a real-life zombie apocalypse with this preparation guide from the Centers for Disease Control, the fictional counterpart of which was destroyed during the first season of "The Walking Dead."
The CDC notes that its preparation guide also comes in handy for more common disasters, such as hurricanes.
"The Walking Dead" television show follows the trials of a band of survivors making its way through the remains of the southern U.S. in the wake of an almost 100 percent lethal plague that first kills its victims, then reanimates their corpses as mindless, bloodthirsty ghouls. It is based on a series of graphic novels by Robert Kirkman, who now serves as the show's producer.
It airs Sunday at 9:00 p.m. on AMC (Comcast Ch. 63/138, Verizon FIOS Ch. 231, DIRECTV Ch. 254).
