Say It Ain't Snow! Cold, Wet Winter Predicted

It may still be summer but the Farmer’s Almanac is already thinking about winter.

And according to the publication, which puts out an annual long-term forecast, this year’s winter will be cold and wet.

“According to the 2015 edition of the Farmers’ Almanac, the winter of 2014–15 will see below-normal temperatures for about three-quarters of the nation,” the publication said in a summary on its website. “Over the eastern third of the country, we are expecting an active storm track with a number of storms delivering copious amounts of snow and rain.”

The Farmer’s Almanac said it is “red flagging” the first 10 days of January and the first week of February along the Atlantic seaboard for “active wintry weather” featuring “bouts of heavy precipitation and strong winds.”

Watch out again in mid-March, when more widespread wintry conditions are expected along the East Coast.

The publication uses sunspots, planetary positions and lunar cycles to come up with a long-range forecast.
