State Police Perform Seatbelt Checks On 422

State police performed visual seat belt checks on U.S. 422 in Phoenixville today, according to eyewitness accounts and reports on social media.

The checks were happening on the hill between Route 29 and Oaks, according to a post on the Facebook page 422 Sucks.

Residents expressed dismay at the enforcement.

“What a waste of taxpayer dollars,” said local Brittany Dougherty.

Click it or ticket campaigns are employed by police departments nationwide to reduce injuries and deaths caused by motorists not buckling up.

The National Highway Transportation Safety Authority’s click it or ticket campaign ran from May through May 31.
