LOWER SOUTHAMPTON TOWNSHIP, PA — Bridge construction has begun on the span that carries Trevose Road over Poquessing Creek, PennDOT said.
The Pennsylvania Department of Transportation said that construction to rehabilitate the bridge will last for nearly a month.
The current bridge is 45 feet long, 49 feet wide, and carries more than 8,000 vehicles a day.
From now through Monday, July 20, Trevose Road will be closed and detoured 24/7 between Route 132 (Street Road) and Route 532 (Bustleton Avenue) for bridge repairs.
During the closure, motorists will be directed to use Route 132 (Street Road), Philmont Avenue, and Route 532 (Bustleton Avenue).
Local access will be maintained at all times.
Drivers are advised to allow extra time when traveling near the work area or through the detour route because backups and delays will occur.
All scheduled activities are weather dependent.
The project calls for a Latex Modified Concrete overlay to be applied to the existing 56-year-old single span bridge.
PennDOT said that deck joints will be resealed or replaced, substructure cracks will be repaired, and concrete repairs to the underside of the bridge deck will take place.
Spall repairs will be made to the barrier and the missing metal bridge railing on top of the concrete barrier will be replaced.
Overgrown vegetation will be cleared from the approaches and rock protection will be placed at the east abutment wingwalls to mitigate erosion.
