New Plate

Traditionally, it's that time of year for resolutions and starting over . . . and I'm all for that. So what exactly do I have against a "clean slate?"

Half a year since I last blogged?! That's not right!!

I could offer a few thousand feeble excuses why, but the simple (humbling) truth is I just bit off far more than I could chew. Actually, it's worse than that. It was like I was at an all-you-can-eat buffet and I piled up my plate so high that I couldn't even lift it! But still, I kept piling on new things. Eventually, the plate fell to the floor and shattered and everything I had stacked upon it was ruined.

Oh, the drama!

But guess what? I got a new plate! Yeah, some people might try telling me that the "correct" phrase for starting over is a "clean slate," but they would be mistaken. Seriously, how many people even use slate any more? A "new plate" makes so much more sense, dontcha think?

Anyway, this time, I'm going to try hard not to overload. Maybe I can treat my life like one of those fancy restaurants that serves more plate than meal?

And how am I going to do that? Well, for one thing, instead of being Editor of Songwriter's Monthly AND freelance writer AND Patch blogger, I'm going to combine it all into one little couple-hundred-words-at-a-shot blog. If I can even remotely connect it to music, you will find it in this blog. If that sounds rather broad . . . good! As much as I love dissecting music and talking about the effective use of chord substitutions in jazz, there are times when I watch a video and I mutter to myself, "Who told you that was a good choice for an outfit?!"

So there you have it, in this blog, I'll be writing about things I know . . . and things I'm pretty much clueless about. You know, things like fashion and trends. Hopefully, it will bring a smile — or, at the very least, a cringe — to your lips and add a dash of entertainment to you day!

Thanks for reading!
