Construction on 95 to Result in Lane Closures This Week

The work is part of a $251 million effort to rebuild Philadelphia-area interchanges on the interstate.

Lane closures will be in place on Interstate 95 this week for construction at the Girard Avenue and Cottman Avenue interchanges.

The work is part of a $251 million effort to rebuild Philadelphia-area interchanges on the interstate. Here are the planned lane closures this week:

  • Through Saturday night, March 21, northbound I-95 will be reduced from three lanes-to-two from 10 p.m. to 5 a.m. between the Bridge Street and Cottman Avenue interchanges.
  • From 10 p.m. Monday to 5 a..m Tuesday, I-95 south will be reduced from three lanes to one between Palmer and Shackamaxon streets, located just south of the Girard Avenue Interchange.
  • From 10 p.m. Friday to 5 a.m. Saturday, I-95 north will be reduced from three lanes to one approaching the Girard Avenue Interchange as crews erect beams for the center section of the I-95 bridge over Columbia Avenue.

All planned construction activities are weather dependent, according to PennDOT.

Motorists should expect slow moving traffic and possible delays entering the work zones, PennDOT said.
