Man Flees To Romania In $34K Lower Southampton Twp. Vehicle Scheme

Lower Southampton Police seek a man who duped a resident who wired money to a bank account for a vehicle purchase.

LOWER SOUTHAMPTON TOWNSHIP, PA — Police are seeking a man who duped a resident out of $34,000 for a vehicle purchase and then fled to Romania with the money.

The Lower Southampton Township Police Department has issued a warrant for the arrest of Ion Cojocaru.

Police received a report last September from a resident who tried to buy a vehicle from G & B Auto Sales in Feasterville through a website for $34,000.

The purchase was for a 1969 Chevrolet Camaro, which was paid by wire transfer, with arrangements made for the car to be shipped to the township resident, police said.

But police said the car was never shipped, and the vehicle never even existed on the website.

Lower Southampton Police determined that the money was sent to a bank account belonging to Cojocaru, INCC Transportation LLC, of Florida.

After the transaction and the withdrawal of the money from the bank account, police said the 32-year-old Cojocaru returned to Romania.

Police have charged Cojocaru with Dealing In Proceeds of Unlawful Activities, Criminal Use of Communication, Theft by Deception and Receiving Stolen Property.
