Required Student Vaccinations

In order to attend school in the 2011-12 school year, children need the following vaccines.

According to a post on the Neshaminy School District website, there are several vaccines students are required by the Pennsylvania Department of Health to receive before they can attend school next fall.

Children in all grades need the following vaccinations:

  • Four doses of tetanus*(one dose on or after the fourth birthday)
  • Four doses of diphtheria*(one dose on or after the fourth birthday)
  • Three doses of polio
  • Two doses of measles**
  • Two doses of mumps**
  • One dose of rubella (German measles)**
  • Three doses of hepatitis B
  • Two doses of varicella (chickenpox) vaccine or history of disease

*Usually given as DTP or DTaP or DT or Td
**Usually given as MMR

Children that will be attending seventh grade next year need the following vaccinations:

  • One dose of tetanus, diphtheria, acellular pertussis [Tdap] if five years has elapsed since last tetanus immunization
  • One dose of meningococcal conjugate vaccine [MCV]

These requirements allow for medical reasons and religious beliefs. If your child is exempt from immunizations, he or she may be removed from school during an outbreak, according to the district's notice. Pennsylvania’s school immunization requirements can be found in 28 PA.CODE CH.23 (School Immunization).
