School Board Approves New, Revised School Calendars

The Neshaminy School Board approved the 2012-13 school calendar and the revised calendar for the current school year.

This following the in January to ensure that students would complete 180 days of instruction by June 15, in accordance with state law. The strike had little effect on the final day of school for students -- prior to the strike, the last day of school was slated for June 14.

In order for students to complete 180 days of instruction after the strike, several teacher professional development days were eliminated. In addition, two days of students' Easter recess were eliminated and students will now report to school on Election Day April 24.

Superintendent Louis Muenker announced that in addition to the last day of school now being June 15, he stated that Neshaminy High School's graduation has been scheduled for June 13. The last day for teaching staff will be June 25.

In addition to approving calendar changes, the school board also voted to oppose Senate bill 1309, which would amend the process to appeal property assessments. Board President Ritchie Webb stated that if this bill was passed into law, it could restrict both school districts and municipalities from appealing property assessments they feel are low. He said that the bill is currently being reviewed by the Senate Finance Committee, but that it could come to the Senate floor for a vote in the next few days.
