Swim Club Aims To Re-Open Next Week After Tree Injured 9 Patrons

In Feasterville, nine people, including at least four children, were injured after lightning struck a tree at Dolphin Swim Club.

LOWER SOUTHAMPTON, PA — A swim club in Feasterville aims to be open again next week after a lightning strike sent a tree crashing down on a pavilion there, injuring nine people.

Matt Gilbert, Lower Southampton's parks and recreation director, said the Dolphin Swim Club, at 260 W. Bristol Rd., is scheduled to re-open at 11 a.m. on Thursday, Aug. 29.

In a Facebook post, Gilbert said Lower Southampton crews are working with contractors to clean up the site and eliminate any safety hazards that may have been caused in the incident on Sunday.

"The Lower Southampton Township’s thoughts and prayers are with those injured in Sunday’s extraordinary weather event ...," Gilbert said. "Safety is first and foremost to our clientele, so we thank you in advance for your patience on this matter. We still have a fair amount of work to do before we reopen to the public."

On Sunday, nine people, including at least four children, were injured when, at about 5 p.m., a tree fell on a tent pavilion where patrons were sheltering from a thunderstorm. All nine were taken to St. Mary Medical Center and their injuries were described by police as "minor to moderate."
