• Dallas man charged with trying to run down neighbor (citizensvoice.com) — A Dallas man is being held without bail at Luzerne County Correctional Facility after police say he assaulted a woman and then tried to run down a neighbor who intervened. The case, tied to Lehman Avenue in nearby Dallas, is moving toward an Oct. 6 preliminary hearing, underscoring a serious public safety incident affecting Luzerne County residents.
• Wilkes-Barre Council approves more than $2.2M in LSA grant applications (timesleader.com) — Wilkes-Barre City Council just advanced more than $2.2 million in Local Share Assessment grant applications that could upgrade public spaces, city buildings, and community facilities serving Luzerne County residents. One proposed $375,000 grant for an NAACP Luzerne County building project was pulled, while council also debated how to better enforce noise and e‑bike rules that neighbors have been complaining about.
• Clarks Summit State Hospital, Indiana University of Pa. enter clinical training agreement (wvia.org) — A new partnership between Clarks Summit State Hospital and Indiana University of Pennsylvania's medical school will train future doctors in psychiatric care for the rural counties the hospital serves, including Luzerne. By bringing medical students into this regional facility, state officials hope more physicians will eventually practice locally, improving access to mental and behavioral health care for Luzerne County residents.
