Paoli Author Ann Atkins Discusses Her New Book on Eleanor Roosevelt in Center City February 5
Seniors who are history lovers will enjoy the FREE Lunch & Learn presentation on Tuesday, February 5, at 11:30 a.m. when Paoli-based author Ann Atkins offers insights from her new book “Eleanor Roosevelt’s Life of Soul Searching & Self Discovery” at The Watermark at Logan Square, the continuing care retirement community at Two Franklin Town Boulevard in Center City. This event is open to the public. Pre-registration is required.
Atkins's new biography explores the story of an extraordinary American who refused to cave in to society’s rules. The book recalls Roosevelt’s exuberant style, wavering voice and lack of Hollywood beauty that were all fodder for the media during a volatile era in global affairs. America’s First Lady for thirteen years, Roosevelt
redefined and exploited this role to a position of power. Using her influence, she championed for Jewish people, African Americans and women. After her husband Franklin’s death, she defied a post-war return to status quo and established the Universal Declaration of Human Rights within the U.N. and earned her way to being named “First Lady of the World.”
“In writing this book, I really wanted readers to connect with Eleanor’s incredible journey to following her own destiny,” explained Atkins, whose own career track includes college instructor, counselor and director of a family support center. Hearing back from her readers, Atkins reflects, “Eleanor’s story has proven to be very inspirational across generations and gender.” Atkins holds a master’s degree in counseling from Boston University with further studies at the University of Cambridge.
