Senior pitcher Allie Frank (Malvern, Pa./Great Valley) threw her first career no-hitter as the Albright College softball team swept Rosemont at home on Tuesday.
Frank threw 12 shutout innings, striking out 11, as Albright won 8-0 (in five innings) and 5-0.
Frank got Margaret Miller to ground out for the final out in the top of the fifth of the opener. The Lions still needed two more runs in the bottom half to reach the mercy rule and lock up the no-no. A hit batsman scored a run, and then the Rosemont right fielder dropped Jackie Bohanan's sacrifice fly to score Shelby Snyder.
Frank was nearly perfect, with only an infield error in the fourth allowing a Raven to reach base. She got a 1-2-3 first inning that included two swinging strikeouts. She then got Victoria Baratucci looking to end the second.
Second baseman Kiersten Gilfoy ran down a tough blooper for an out in the top of the third, and Courtney Dorsey struck out looking as Frank stayed perfect through three.
Gilfoy was 2-for-3 with two RBIs and two runs scored in game one, while Snyder was 3-for-4 and came home three times. Junior Hillary Rodriguez was 2-for-2 with an RBI, and sophomore Natalie Carlucci went 2-for-2 with four RBIs and one run scored.
After Gilfoy reached on a blooper over the first baseman, Carlucci doubled in both her and Snyder. Gilfoy then doubled in Snyder and Brandy Lagomarsino in the bottom of the fourth to make it 4-0, sneaking a ball inside the right field line.
In game two, Jessica Versage finally got Rosemont a hit with a tip single that stopped in between Frank and the catcher. The Ravens threatened in the fourth but Snyder, Carlucci and Nikki Schwenk turned a double play to help escape the inning.
Carlucci launched her seventh homer of the season, and fourth in nine days, in the third inning. Her blast to right-center scored Snyder and Gilfoy.
The sophomore slugger was 2-for-3 with three RBIs in the nightcap, completing a seven-RBI game. Lagomarsino, Gilfoy and Snyder each recorded two hits and scored once, with Gilfoy also providing an RBI.
Gilfoy doubled in Lagomarsino in the bottom of the first, and Carlucci scored on an error in the bottom of the fifth.
Albright improves to 7-23, 2-12, and will travel to Valley Forge Christian College on Thursday.
