Ranked one of the 100 best hospitals in the country, Paoli Hospital always makes me feel a sense of security. I can see it from the hilly area in my neighborhood.
My kids stand tall and proud: "Look, that's where we were born!" And I always say: "Yup, those maternity ward nurses always had the best chocolate chip cookies I ever had."
But pizza? Yes, whoever the person is that makes the pizza there- my hat's off to him or her. I am not from this area originally-- in fact I am from New York and EVERYONE knows about that pizza. I lived in Europe and travelled to almost every country over there. I was blown away when I peered over the counter and saw the pizza Paoli had.

The crust was a grainy whole wheat kind which automatically one thinks "Healthy heart but probably a little bland tasting, oh well, I'll be good and do the healthy heart thing." The topping was freshly grilled vegetables in large chunks: Red onion, zucchini, eggplant, red peppers and fresh tomatoes. The cheese was thin but freshly grated. Not too saucy- you could tell the sauce wasn't going to ooze off the slice as you made your way around the triangle biting it. So, I got it. And I bit it. And let me tell you- I went back for seconds and thirds. I kept telling my son: "I have NEVER had pizza like this before!"
Of course in his book I was just plain odd raving about pizza at a hospital cafeteria. Not sure if it's always on their menu but next time the girls want a lunch date-- I am recommending Paoli Hospital Cafe!
