Chesco Lawmaker To Honor Veterans At Valley Forge Medal Of Honor Grove

Pennsyvlania's only living Medal of Honor recipient, retired Army Colonel Walter J. Marm, will give remarks.

State Senator Andy Dinniman (D) will hold a special event to honor veterans on Saturday, September 24 at 10 a.m. at the Medal of Honor Grove in Valley Forge.

Dinniman, the minority chair of the Senate Veterans Affairs and Emergency Preparedness Committee, organized the event in conjunction with the Freedoms Foundation, the Friends of the Medal of Honor Grove, and the Pennsylvania Museum and Historical Commission, according to a press release from his office.

The grove is the nation’s oldest memorial site dedicated to Medal of Honor recipients.

“The period of 2015-17 marks the 100th Anniversary of WWI, the 75th Anniversary of WWII, the 65thAnniversary of the Korean War, the 50th Anniversary of the Vietnam War, and the 25th Anniversary of the Gulf War,” Dinniman said in a statement. “These milestones call for us to come together to remember the fallen, as well as honor all of our nation’s heroes and veterans of all branches of the military from throughout our history.”

Dinniman's office said that PA Lt. Governor Mike Stack and Pennsylvania Adjutant General, Brigadier General Tony Carrelli, will also speak.

“The Medal of Honor Grove is a unique place where nature and history come together in a moving tribute to our nation’s heroes. As Chester Countians, we are honored to have this historic memorial site call our region home,” Dinniman said.

The Medal of Honor Grove is located just off Route 23 outside Valley Forge. The address is 1601 Valley Forge Road in Phoenixville. Guests should bring a blanket or chair.
