Credit Card Breach Hits Malvern-Area Hotel

The Holiday Inn Express in Frazer is one of many hotels owned by InterContinental Hotels Group that was hit by a data breach in late 2016.

InterContinental Hotels Group, a parent company that includes brands such as Holiday Inn, Crowne Plaza and Candlewood Suites has announced that more than 1,000 of its locations may have been subject to a breach of customer credit card information between September 29, 2016, and December 29, 2016.

One affected location is the Holiday Inn Express at 1 Morehall Road in Frazer, according to the hotel group.

The group said an invest revealed signs of a computer program that accessed credit card data from cards used onsite at front desks for certain IHG-branded franchise hotels.

"The malware searched for track data (which sometimes has cardholder name in addition to card number, expiration date, and internal verification code) read from the magnetic stripe of a payment card as it was being routed through the affected hotel server," InterContinental Hotels Group said in a statement. "There is no indication that other guest information was affected."

If you believe you are the victim of identity theft or have reason to believe your personal information has been misused, you should immediately contact the Federal Trade Commission and/or the Pennsylvania Attorney General’s office.

If you've been a customer at one of the group's hotels during that time period and believe your credit card information might have been stolen, IHG has posted an easily searchable list of compromised hotels, and the timeframes during which the information was vulnerable.
