Great Valley School District Alum Lands On The Forbes "30 Under 30" List

Ricky Ashenfelter, Class of 2005, started a company with a goal of eliminating food waste.

A Great Valley School District graduate has found himself on the Forbes 30 Under 30 list for social entrepreneurs.

Ricky Ashenfelter, Class of 2005, landed on the prestigious list for his work on eliminating food waste.

Ashenfelter, who holds degrees from Georgetown and MIT, started Spoiler Alert in 2015.

While some may assume Spoiler Alert is a trivial pop culture service that helps you avoid having TV show and movie plots ruined, Spoiler Alert uses technology to help businesses, farms, and non profits to put surplus food and food waste to good use.

"The tech company acts as a real-time marketplace for food donations and discount sales, making it easy for businesses, farms and nonprofits to sustainably deal with excess food," Forbes says of Spoiler Alert.

The Boston-based company was the 2015 MassChallenge and a member of the Spring 2016 cohort of Techstars Boston.

Spoiler Alert recently acquired $2.5 million in seed funding to further combat the nation's food waste issues.
