GVSD Taxes Up Nearly 19 Percent In Last Decade: Report

MALVERN, PA – Rising taxes levied by school districts is nothing new, as greater demands from teachers unions, new teaching methods, technology improvements, and more create strains on district budgets. And a new report from the Philadelphia Inquirer tracked how much districts in the greater Philadelphia area have raised taxes over the last decade, Great Valley School District included.

In the report, the Inquirer charted out tax increases imposed by districts in Delaware, Chester, Montgomery, and Bucks counties over the last 10 years.

According to the report, the Great Valley School District has raised taxes by nearly 19 percent over the last decade.

An 18.8 percent increase was charted over those ten years, with the most recent budget – approved on June 4 – containing another 1.295 percent increase. The 2017-2018 budget did not include a rate increase.

That means a $120 tax bill hike, the outlet reports.

The other Main Line school districts with high 10-year changes are Haverford (43.7 percent), Lower Merion (43.2 percent), and Tredyffrin/Easttown (35.4 percent).
