Malvern Closes Parks, Playgrounds Amid Coronavirus Outbreak

The public can still walk through the parks, such as on the pedestrian pathways in Burke Park, but are not allowed to congregate.

MALVERN, PA — In order to prevent the further spread of the new coronavirus, known as COVID-19, Malvern Borough has closed all its parks and playgrounds.

The borough said Wednesday that the parks and playgrounds are closed until further notice.

Officials made the decision in an effort to prevent the spread of the virus through high contact surfaces at parks and playgrounds.

Below are affected facilities:

  • All playground equipment and the gazebo at Burke Park
  • Basketball courts and baseball field at Quann Park
  • Basketball court at Herzak Park
  • All playground equipment at Rubino Park
  • Tennis courts, baseball fields, and playground equipment at the Paoli Memorial Grounds
  • Battlefield area at the Paoli Battlefield Park

"We understand how integral these facilities are to our community’s daily life, and very much appreciate that, but believe this to be the best course of action at this time," the borough said.

Walking trails in Randolph Woods Nature Preserve and Paoli Battlefield Park are open, as well.

Great Valley School District will continue their food distribution program as outlined in Burke Park during this time.
