Malvern Native Headed To U. of Chicago Earns Scholarship from Dunkin Donuts

Dunkin Donuts has awarded a total of $50,000 in scholarships to students around the region, including several in Chester County.

Dunkin Donuts has awarded a total of $50,000 in scholarship money to 25 local students, including several individuals in Chester County.

Students were selected for their academic record, demonstrated leadership, and commitment to both their school and community, according to a press release.

Each recipient will receive a $2,000 scholarship to pursue a full-time undergraduate degree at an accredited two-year or four-year college, university or vocational-technical school in the Fall of 2016.

“On behalf of Dunkin’ Donuts and the franchisees in the Greater Philadelphia Region, I would like to congratulate the 25 recipients of the 2016 Dunkin’ Donuts Philadelphia Regional Scholarship Program,” said Perry Shah, Dunkin’ Donuts franchisee and chairman of the Dunkin’ Donuts Advertising Committee for the Greater Philadelphia market. “Seven years ago, this program was created to help support the regional communities we are proud to serve. We wish these young men and women success as they continue in their academic careers.”

The winners were selected from thousands of applicants, the company said. Scholarship of America, a national manager of scholarship and tuition reimbursement programs, administered the competition.

The Chester County recipients are listed below:

Eric Wang — Malvern, PA
High School: Great Valley High School | Malvern, PA
University: University of Chicago | History and Economics major (Class of 2020)

  • Eric Wang is a Malvern, PA resident and recent Great Valley High School graduate. At Great Valley, Eric was a member of the Varsity Cross Country and Track team, class valedictorian and National Honor Society president. This fall, Eric will relocate to Chicago, IL as a freshman at the University of Chicago. Eric plans to major in History and Economics.

Alice Liu — West Chester, PA
High School: Unionville High School | Kennett Square, PA
University: University of Pennsylvania | Biophysics major (Class of 2020)

  • Alice Liu is a West Chester resident and recent graduate (valedictorian) of Unionville High School. At Unionville, Alice served as class president, the school board student representative, and was a member of the Chester County student forum. In her free time, Alice enjoys playing the piano and volunteering at local hospitals. Alice will attend the University of Pennsylvania this fall, where she plans to major in Biophysics.

Josh Mills — Downingtown, PA
High School: Downingtown East High School | Downingtown, PA
University: St. Francis University | Biology/Pre-Professional major (Class of 2020)

  • Josh Mills is a Downingtown resident and recent Downingtown East graduate. Josh served as a National Honor Society member and was the winner of the St. Francis Academic Award. This fall, Josh will relocate to Loretto, PA to attend St. Francis University where he will major in Biology/Pre-Professional.
