Malvern's 18th Annual Butterfly Run Set For April 20

The event will feature a 5k, a 1 Mile "Fun Walk," and even an Easter egg hunt for the little ones while honoring the late Elizabeth Ciunci.

MALVERN, PA — Registration is now open for the 18th Annual Elizabeth Ciunci Foundation Butterfly Run in Malvern.

The run supports scholarships for students pursuing degrees in early childhood education.

Elizabeth Ciunci, a Great Valley High School student, was tragically killed at 19 years old in 1999 by a drunk driver on the Schuylkill Expressway. Her death prompted the foundation's establishment.

Registration is open now and available online here.

The run will be held at 9 a.m. on Saturday, April 20 at Great Valley High School.

Runners will start at Great Valley High School, then continue along residential roads to ultimately finish back at the high school.

Day of registration is available at 7:30 a.m.

The 1 Mile "Fun Walk" starts at 9:05 a.m.

There will also be an Easter Egg Hunt for the little ones.

Funds raised by the foundation support an endowment at Delaware County Community College, scholarships for local area high school seniors, raise awareness of the dangers of drinking and driving, and sponsor community organizations that aid children struggling with learning disabilities.

Cash prizes are available to the top three male and female finishers, as well as the top-two male and female finished in each age group.

Age groups are:

  • 12 and under
  • 13-15
  • 16-19
  • 20-29
  • 30-39
  • 40-49
  • 50-59
  • 60-69
  • 70 and over
