New Firehouse Construction Underway!

The first phase of construction of a new firehouse in East Whiteland Township has begun.  This first phase involves the clearing and grading of the property located on the corner of Route 401 and Mill Lane.  Following this phase, utilities infrastructure will be installed underground before actual construction of the building begins.

The new firehouse, centrally located to provide rapid emergency services to all areas of East Whiteland Township, will replace an aging and outdated facility on Planebrook Road.  It will be home to the East Whiteland Volunteer Fire Association’s dedicated volunteer firefighters, ambulance and fire police personnel as well as the township’s career firefighting staff, all who work hand in hand to provide professional, all-hazard emergency services to the township residents, businesses and commuters traveling through the area 24 hours a day, seven days a week.

The new firehouse will provide much needed room to house fire apparatus, ample storage space for equipment and supplies, a fitness room, training rooms and sleeping quarters for members.  The new building will be fully compliant with modern building and fire codes and also incorporate “green” features to improve energy efficiency.

Although construction timelines sometimes change as projects move along, personnel hope to be operating out of their new station by the end of 2014.   In the meantime, check back with us often for more updates and pictures of the progress of the project!
