People's Light Announces First Annual Family Fun Day

People's Light Family Fun Day is set for Sept. 21.

On Sunday, September 21 from 12 to 5 pm, People’s Light will host our First Annual Family Fun Day in celebration of the 40th Anniversary Season. This is a free community event for all ages, featuring family games, interactive play, artisan vendors, live performances, food vendors and more. Family Fun Day will be held rain or shine at People’s Light, located at 39 Conestoga Road, Malvern, PA 19355. Free, on-site parking will be available.

“There is no better way to launch our 40th Anniversary Season,” says Abigail Adams, Artistic Director & CEO, “than a celebration of many generations engaging with People’s Light together.” People’s Light has a 39-year history of nurturing longstanding, reciprocal relationships with the communities in our surrounding region. These relationships are responsible for our consistent growth and the strength of our programming, which includes extensive arts-education and community engagement initiatives, as well as a range of productions on our two stages.

Family Fun Day will highlight the full range of activity that takes place on our campus and strengthen the partnerships we have with local businesses, artisans, and community members at large. The day features tours of the campus, inflatable jousting and a bounce-castle, a Panto-inspired “messy bit,” artistic demonstrations including foam carving, story-time, kids’ yoga class offered by Next Generation Yoga with Devon, a dress-up photo booth, a scavenger hunt, face-painting, and participation of food vendors including Whirled Peace truck, Love Food Co, and others.

Participating community and non-profit partners will be on site with interactive activities, information on services/programs, and giveaway prizes. Artisan vendors will be on-site with works of art available for sale, as well as interactive artistic demonstrations – including local potter, Bob Deane (Main Line Arts Center, Community Arts Center); visual and print works by Dolly & Alice; fiber arts from A La Liz; knit treasures from Sew Good To See You!; and crafts by long-time friend of People’s Light, Ann Sullivan.

As a leading sponsor of the event, “Penn Liberty Bank proudly supports Family Fun Day,” remarks Brian C. Zwaan, President & COO of Penn Liberty Bank and People’s Light Trustee. “As we celebrate 10 years of service in Chester County, we have been honored to work with People’s Light, which has been dedicated to the community for the last 40 years. We look forward to continuing our support of such a local cultural treasure, and sharing many more milestones in the future.” This event is made possible thanks to the generous support of the following sponsors: Penn Liberty Bank, WHYY, PNC Bank, Tague Lumber, TD Bank, Kimberton Whole Foods, Conlin’s, GreenDrop, O’Neill Properties, Upper Main Line YMCA, and Wegmans.

GreenDrop will be on-site collecting donations during Family Fun Day. GreenDrop collects lightly-used clothing, household and electronic goods on behalf of the Military Order of the Purple Heart and the National Federation of the Blind. In addition to the ongoing Family Fun Day activities, earlier in the day People’s Light will premiere My Pet Dragon, a theatre piece for the very young. Pete Pryor, Associate Artistic Director, describes, “This sensory based performance is the first of its kind to be presented at People’s Light. Given the immediate and overwhelming interest from our audience it will not be the last.” Geared for children ages 2 to 5 years of age, My Pet Dragon will allow children to experience the joy of free play and participate in a loose story narrative. On the journey we will meet a janitor, a gallant and brave knight, sing birthday songs and get to meet and celebrate a dragon’s birthday.

ABOUT PEOPLE’S LIGHT

People’s Light, a professional, not-for-profit theatre in Chester County, Pennsylvania, makes plays drawn from many sources to entertain, inspire, and engage our community. We extend our mission of making and experiencing theatre through arts education programs that excite curiosity about, and deepen understanding of, the world around us. These plays and programs bring people together and provide opportunities for reflection, discovery, and celebration. Founded in 1974, we produce seven to nine plays each season, in two black box theatres with 340 and 160 seats respectively, mixing world premieres, contemporary plays, and fresh approaches to classic texts for our 7-Play and Discovery Series. www.peopleslight.org
