Public Invited to Join Search for Great Valley Superintendent

A focus group for the Great Valley School District greater community will be held Thursday.

An intense search for Great Valley School District’s next superintendent continues this week with a public focus group at Great Valley High School in Malvern Thursday, March 19 at 7 p.m.

Residents of the school district and community are invited to discuss their expectations for the district’s next educational leader by attending the meeting, facilitated by the Chester County Intermediate Unit (CCIU). The intermediate unit has been chosen by GVSD’s Board of Directors to conduct the district’s superintendent search.

This is the third in a series of focus groups conducted by the CCIU In order to determine the needs of the district and its community. The hopes and concerns voiced by focus group respondents will be utilized to develop a candidate profile and interview questions, according to a press release from the CCIU.

The goals of the focus groups are to:

  1. Identify the qualities needed in a superior school leader;
  2. Identify the strengths and skills essential for the next superintendent to demonstrate;
  3. Identify key issues facing the district in the next five years that the superintendent will need to address; and,
  4. Identify the obstacles to student achievement and the strategies the next superintendent will need to employ to overcome those obstacles.

The superintendent search team is also communicating with stakeholders through a variety of other formats, including email input and website updates. Community members unable to attend a focus group, but who are still interested in sharing their thoughts, can direct their comments to GVSDsuptsearch@cciu.org.
