SEPTA Labor Dispute on Pause as Obama Steps In

President Barack Obama on Friday intervened in the ongoing SEPTA labor dispute.

The president created a three-member board to mediate between SEPTA and its Regional Rail engineers, The Philadelphia Inquirer said.

Without the creation of this presidential emergency board, the Inquirer said, a SEPTA strike could have started as soon as Monday, Oct. 13.

The emergency board put in place by Obama will require Regional Rail service to continue operating for 120 days, beginning 12:01 a.m. Oct. 13, the Inquirer said.
