Let's Spring 'Em From Jail!

Defend human rights, save lives, meet other dedicated persons. Amnesty International.

April has finally settled in, melting snows and warming hearts. In keeping with the spirit of the season, let’s “spring” some prisoners of conscience from jail! People like Moussa Tchangari, Ali Idrissa, Nouhou Arzika and Lirwana Abdourahmane, arrested and detained by security forces in Niamey, Niger, solely because of their peaceful human rights work. Or ten Turkish students from Boğaziçi University, jailed for peacefully protesting their country’s military operations in Syria. You have the power to get them released.

We are Amnesty International, and we defend human rights around the world. Our grassroots members flood repressive governments with appeals on behalf of individuals imprisoned solely for the peaceful expression of their views or the practice of their religion. Among AI’s victories: eleven people in Ethiopia, including a lawyer, journalists, bloggers, opposition members and academics, released without being charged; and Upendra Nayak, a 65-year-old Indian lawyer and indigenous people’s advocate, granted bail and released from custody in March.

Become a part of victories like these. Amnesty International USA Group 342 meets the third Wednesday of the month in Wegmans café, 50 Foundry Way (at Route 29), Malvern, PA. Follow us on Facebook, Twitter, and Instagram. Read about our activities on our blog. At our April 18 meeting, we will celebrate Nowruz (Persian New Year) by sending greeting cards to seven prisoners of conscience in Iran. We provide cards and postage. Come join the party!
