Uber Driver Convicted Of Raping Charlestown Woman

The driver, an Egyptian native, faces extensive jail time, as well as possible deportation, authorities said.

CHARLESTOWN, PA — An Uber driver from has been convicted of raping an unconscious Charlestown woman after picking her up from Valley Forge Casino in 2018.

Ahmed M. Elgaafary, 26, of Lansdale, picked the victim up at around 2 a.m. on Feb. 10, 2018, and was supposed to drive her straight to a home in Chester County.

Instead he raped her before dropping her off, state police said.

The conviction comes at the end of a week-long trial.

Elgaafary, a native of Egypt, initially argued that no sexual contact had taken place, according to Chester County District Attorney Tom Hogan.

He then reversed course and claimed it was consensual sex, when DNA results from a rape kit came back, Hogan said.

Hogan praised the work of prosecutors Vince Cocco and Alexis Shaw, and state trooper Amos Glick.

Sentencing has not yet been scheduled. Elgaafary faces extensive jail time, as well as possible deportation.
