Malvern Students Learn the Importance of Voting

From October 26 through November 2, students in grades K-8 learned the importance of voting by getting the chance to do it themselves through the the CCIU Kids Voting-Chester County program for the 2015 municipal elections. Students had the opportunity to cast their ballots online for the upcoming elections along with hundreds of thousands of students nationwide. Kids Voting–Chester County is a member of Kids Voting USA. Kids Voting USA (KVUSA) gets students involved and ready to be educated, engaged citizens. Students learn about democracy through a combination of classroom activities, an authentic voting experience and family dialogue. The CCIU provided the school with an online voting website and ballots and “Voting Counts” stickers for the students. “They didn’t fully understand who to vote for, but we explained to them that different candidates run for different things, like education, or the roads,” said Kristin Thomas, Third Grade teacher at Villa. And “It was nice,” said Sandy Hannigan, also Third Grade, “they didn’t want to vote for the wrong person, so they kept asking questions. It was great.” This is just one of the many ways Villa Maria is committed to the mission of teaching girls the importance of global citizenship.
