Vote On East Whiteland's New Park Name

Want to have a say on what the township's new park will be called? You can vote on one of three names for the new park. See details here.

EAST WHITELAND TOWNSHIP, PA – East Whiteland Township has a new park on the way, but it needs a name. And that's where you come in.

The township is asking the public weigh in on the name of the park.

The public can vote on one of three options – Bacton Hill Park, Woodyard Park and Patriot Park – through March 8.

Residents can vote one of the three options by emailing info@eastwhiteland.org with their choice of name.

The park's name will be announced at the March 14 Board of Supervisors meeting.

Below is information on each proposed name:


Bacton Hill Park
Bacton Hill is a region in East Whiteland that was an early village for African Americans. The Ebenezer AME Church and cemetery was a sacred space where a Civil War soldier is buried.

Woodyard Park
Hiram Woodyard was a Township resident and former slave who served in the Union Army as a teamster. He was a leader in the African American community and is buried at the Ebenezer AME Church. His home still stands on Congestoga Road.

Patriot Park
This name reflects the historical significance of the Township, region and members of the East Whiteland community.


The 16-acre park is off Bacton Hill Road and is called the "Swanenburg Property" for now.
