(WATCH) Malvern Prep's Class of 2015 Sings 'All These Things I Have Done' At Graduation

“What’s past is prologue,” Tom McGuire, a graduate of the Malvern Prep Class of ’75 and a social studies teacher, quoted Shakespeare to begin his speech at the commencement for the Class of 2015 on June 4.

They were fitting words for a ceremony that honored not just the graduating students themselves, but the tradition and culture of the institution that has nurtured its own success.

One of McGuire’s own students, Ron Algeo, is now the Head of Malvern Prep’s Upper School.

“He never slept through any of my classes,” McGuire joked. “How’s that for a roller coaster?”

It was a fitting reminder for a room full of graduating students with their futures wide open before them.

Student commencement speaker Parker Abate touched on the distinctiveness of the Malvern Prep experience.

“During this dream, I realized that there are some things in life that simply can’t be explained,” he said. “Brotherhood is not really a tangible topic. Yeah, you may see me run over to one of the guys and give them a hug. But that doesn’t explain what brotherhood truly is.”

Malvern Prep’s class of 2015 also celebrated their graduation with a choral performance of ”All These Things I Have Done” by the Killers.

McGuire likened the performance to the acapella genius of Africa’s Zulu tribe, who are noted singers.

“Talk about the voices of angels,” he said.
