West Whiteland Police to Receive Commendations from District Attorney

The work of the West Whiteland Police Department in capturing suspects in a murder and robbery case has earned them two DA commendations.

The West Whiteland Police Department will receive commendations from the District Attorneys office for recent accomplishments, the DA's office announced on Tuesday.

The first commendation is for the investigation, arrest, and conviction of Edward J. O'Brien III for third-degree murder and involuntary manslaughter, the DA said. O'Brien, 61, was found guilty in June of withholding nursing care and medications from his elderly father for more than two years. He later died from the neglect.

The second commendation is the investigation, arrest, and conviction of Leonard Bernard for robbery, burglary, and conspiracy, the DA said. Bernard, 38, robbed an elderly woman in her West Whiteland home in 2014, according to authorities.
