Severe heat along much of the eastern seaboard has prompted early dismissals and school closures.

Schools across Connecticut and much of New England closed early on Tuesday due to the heat and concerns about student and staff well-being.

In Hartford, temperatures weren’t much hotter than they were here in Chester County Tuesday. Temperatures soared over 90 degrees in the afternoon, reaching a high of 93 at about 3 p.m., according to Weather.com

Temperatures could be just as hot tomorrow, the National Weather Service predicts. The forecast is calling for a high of 91, with a brutal heat index of 98.

Philadelphia schools closed early at the end of last school year due to a mid-June heat wave with temperatures in the mid-90s.
