The National Hurricane Center has issued a “Special Tropical Weather Outlook” for a storm that could impact beaches along the East Coast, including the Jersey Shore.

The storm could impact beaches even if the storm remains offshore, according to the National Weather Service.

If it comes, the storm could severely affect the last big tourism event of the summer season: Labor Day weekend.

An Air Force Reserve Hurricane Hunter aircraft is continuing to investigate the area of “disturbed weather“ moving over Puerto Rico, according to the National Weather Service.

Aircraft reports indicate that the system is producing winds of “tropical storm force” over the open waters north of Puerto Rico, according to the NWS.

The overall organization of the showers and thunderstorms has been increasing today, according to the National Weather Service.

Gusty winds and heavy rains were expected across Puerto Rico and the Virgin Islands Saturday night, and the southeastern and central Bahamas tonight and Saturday.
