Newtown Square Man Dies After Crashing Into SEPTA Bus: Police

Police said 50-year-old Donald Lee Rieck of Newtown Square died after crashing into the back of a SEPTA bus early Thursday morning.

NEWTOWN SQUARE, PA – A Newtown Square man died following a SEPTA bus-vehicle crash that occurred early Thursday morning in Newtown Square, SEPTA officials and Newtown Square Police said.

Police said Donald Lee Rieck, 50, of Newtown Square, was rushed to Paoli Hospital and pronounced dead after he crashed into the back of the SEPTA bus Thursday, Dec. 28.

The crash occurred at about 12:56 a.m. on West Chester Pike near Radnor Drive in Newtown Square, according to authorities.

A route 104 SEPTA bus was heading west on West Chester Pike when the vehicle struck the back of the bus, SEPTA officials said.

Rieck had to be extricated from the vehicle before being taken to the hospital police said.

The bus was carrying two passengers, none were injured however. The bus driver was taken to a hospital for non-life threatening injuries.

SEPTA officials said there was no substantial damage to the bus.

The cause of the crash remains unknown and police are investigating.
