$15K Grant Awarded To Newtown Square Fire Company

The Newtown Square Fire Company is getting $15,000 in grant funds to support its fire services, State Rep. Melissa Shusterman's office said.

NEWTOWN SQUARE, PA — The Newtown Square Fire Company got a funding boost to bolster its fire services thanks to a state grant program.

State Rep. Melissa Shusterman recently announced funding awarded to several local fire companies as part of the state's Fire Company and Emergency Medical Services Grant Program.

The Newtown Square Fire Company is getting $15,000 in grant funds to support its fire services, Shusterman's office said.

The program is administered by the Office of State Fire Commissioner and makes an annual grant program available to volunteer and career fire companies, emergency medical service providers and rescue squads.

"These grants are a testament to our continued support of our first responders," said Shusterman. "Investing in our emergency services provides us with safer communities."

Acting Pennsylvania State Fire Commissioner Thomas Cook announced that more than $31 million was awarded to 2,336 applicants throughout the commonwealth.

Eligible projects in accordance with the program include facility upgrades, equipment purchases, debt reduction, training and certification, education and public outreach, and recruitment and retention efforts.

Additionally, fire companies are permitted to apply for construction savings accounts for the purposes of new facility construction.
