81-Year-Old Woman's Attempted Rapist Convicted: Delco DA

Brandon Jay Lites, 46, was found guilty of attempted rape, burglary, and other charges in connection with a 2014 Delaware County incident.

A Delaware County man accused of the attempted rape and assault of 81-year-old woman in June 2014 was handed a guilty verdict by a jury recently, according to the Delaware County District Attorney's Office.

Brandon Jay Lites, 46, of Sharon Hill, was convicted of felony attempted rape, felony burglary, felony criminal trespassing, indecent assault, and simple assault on Dec. 20, according to court documents.

Lites assaulted an 81-year-old woman on June 24, 2014 in her own apartment in the city of Chester, the DA's office said.

Lites will be sentenced in February, according to court documents.

Authorities were able to identify Lites as the woman's attacker by testing DNA samples taken at the crime scene.

After the DNA results came in from the sample, a search warrant was executed where authorities obtained DNA samples directly from Lites.

Police said when labs compared the crime scene sample with the sample taken from Lites, the DNA profiles matched.

Police then arrested and charged Lites in October 2015.
