ACME Supermarket Celebrates Grand Re-Opening

NEWTOWN SQUARE–Newtown Square's ACME formally showed off the store's changes after renovations with a political VIP attended ribbon-cutting ceremony on Friday.

Although the new sections of ACME, 3590 West Chester Pike, have been open for about a month, spokesperson Colleen Matijasick, the supermarket held an event to celebrate more food options.

Those changes after the renovation include:

• A Wifi sitting area with Bucks County Coffee
• Expanded and relocated departments, including the bakery, deli, produce, floral, meat and seafood departments.
• Handmade foods, such as sushi, chicken, pizza and Tony Luke's hoagies and cheesesteaks
• Larger variety in produce and gluten-free products

The grocery store also made formal donations at the ceremony.

Newtown Square Fire Company and the Newtown Public Library each received $500 checks -- in gargantuan form -- from ACME. The grocery store also donated a park bench made from 3,900 recycled plastic bags to the Dunwoody Village Residents' Association.

A representative from Congressman Pat Meehan's office was in attendence in addition to Newtown Township boad member John Nawn and Sen. Edwin Erickson.

Erickson said he is a shopper at the grocery store and said that once he got used to the additions he was happy with them.

"I have a selfish motive here," he joked.

ACME also hosted a demonstration from celebrity Chef Walter Staib later in the day.
