Active Shooter Training Planned At School In Marple

MARPLE, PA — Law enforcement will conduct active-shooter training next week at Cardinal O'Hara High School in Marple Township.

Community members may see a large police presence in the area. But there is no active threat at the school, Marple Police said in advisory.

It will take place sometime next week, but a time and date were not immediately available.

"This activity is part of a planned training exercise and does not represent an actual emergency or threat to public safety," police said.

Marple Police are hosting Active Shooter Instructor Certification Training, which will certify 25 officers from around the region as active shooter instructors.

The number of shootings at K-12 institutions around the United States has skyrocketed in recent years. After a then-record 60 school shootings in 2017, there have been at least 100 every year since — and at least 200 in every full year since 2021, according to the K-12 School Shooting Database.
