NEWTOWN, PA — As you might imagine, tickets to the PGA Championship at Aronimink Golf Club in Newtown Square are quite expensive. And with the major less than two weeks away, prices are fluctuating by the hundreds.
As one of golf's major tournaments, the PGA Championship features one of the sport's strongest fields, including big names such as Scottie Scheffler and Rory McIlroy.
With the Championship starting May 11, this is also a time when ticker resellers typically have the leverage to drive up prices. And some of them are going for well-high than Newtown Square's average-monthly rent of $2,625.
When the tournament gets even closer, it's possible some prices will drop out of desperation. But it's a gamble to wait last-minute, since the price reductions aren't a guarantee and plenty of other buyers are also refreshing the page.
Patch took a look at ticket prices if you were to buy them today. Many of those tickets come from resellers.
The tournament runs from Monday, May 11 through Sunday, May 17. Monday through Wednesday are practice rounds, while competition takes place Thursday through Sunday.
PGA Championship tickets fall under two basic packages:
Club PGA tickets are harder to come by. For Thursday of that week — the first day of tournament play — you can currently get a Club PGA ticket for $1,229 on SeatGeek, the PGA's official ticket vendor. SeatGeek also has those tickets selling at $2,801 and $3,088.
Meanwhile, the cheapest Thursday Championship+ ticket on SeatGeek is $250 — a $6 increase from a few minutes prior. That's one of 212 tickets in that package currently available, with many in the high hundreds, several exceeding $1,500 and the highest totaling $2,866.
Now let's look at Sunday — the championship's final day, when the winner is awarded the Wanamaker Trophy.
SeatGeek currently has 445 tickets for sale for Sunday play, ranging from $320 to $3,042. Most are available in the range for $400 to $600.
For Club PGA, SeatGeek shows 14 Sunday tickets ranging from $1,462 to $8,203.
The practice days run considerably cheaper, with single-day tickets as low as $91 for Monday and Tuesday.
A Championship+ weekly pass is currently running at $1,433 on SeatGeek. On StubHub, a few weekly pass tickets are ranging from $1,717 to $3,015.
Some of the prices are also fluctuating rather quickly. For instance, the cheapest Saturday ticket cost on StubHub went from $219 to $274 in about an hour.
