LANSDOWNE, PA — Two people were detained after fleeing from a vehicle where a Delaware County teenager was shot dead Tuesday night, police said.

As the officer continued monitoring the area, he heard gunshots, said Lansdowne Police Chief Ken Rutherford.

The vehicle then crashed about half a block away, and two males fled into a nearby apartment building, Rutherford said.

Police found the shooting victim inside the vehicle, identifying him as an 18-year-old Lansdowne resident. He was pronounced dead at the scene.

Meanwhile, officers searched the apartment building and detained two people for questioning.

No charges have been filed as of Wednesday afternoon, but the investigation remains ongoing.

The victim's name was withheld as police continued to contact his family and investigate.

"This is a terrible tragedy," Rutherford said in a statement. "A young man lost his life in our community, and my thoughts are with his family and loved ones during this incredibly difficult time. There is no taking back the loss of a young life, and our department will work diligently to determine what happened and hold those responsible accountable."

Anyone who may have witnessed the incident or has relevant information can contact the Lansdowne Police Department.
