NEWTOWN SQUARE, PA — Multiple fire departments responded early Monday to a blaze in the lobby of a health insurance company's corporate headquarters in Newtown Square.
The lobby reception desk caught fire around 5 p.m. at AmeriHealth Caritas headquarters — a large office building on West Chester Pike.
Security guards safely evacuated the building before firefighters arrived, according to the Newtown Square Fire Company.
Firefighters extinguished the blaze, and the building's sprinkler system also helped prevent it from spreading.
Photos shared by the Newtown Square Fire Company show smoky conditions in the lobby.
Firefighters from Newtown Square and surrounding communities spent about two hours clearing the scene and ventilating the large building.
AmeriHealth Caritas, a health insurance company, is headquartered in a five-story, 378,000-square-foot office building at 3875 West Chester Pike.
Completed in 2020, Norwood Construction described it as one of the largest office buildings constructed in the Philadelphia suburbs in decades.
The cause of the fire is under investigation.
