
Philadelphia native and long time announcer for the Phillies, Chris Wheeler, spoke on January 8th to a joint meeting of Broomall Rotary and Newtown Square Rotary. “Wheels” has been a broadcaster for the Phillies for 36 years. The longest-tenured member of the Phillies broadcast team, he has done play-by-play and color analysis on both radio and television. Chris is a graduate of Marple Newtown High School and currently resides in Blue Bell.
At the meeting, Chris spoke about last year’s team and prospects for the coming year with insights only he could provide. Chris related a number of delightful stories about current and former players and staff. He also shared how he got started in broadcasting and the people that influenced him along the way. Of course, during Q & A, Chris was grilled about the Phillies and what is happening with the team.
