Broomall Fire Co, Marple Ambulance Corps Get $40K In Grant Funds

MARPLE TOWNSHIP, PA — The Broomall Fire Company and Marple Township Ambulance Corps are being awarded more than $40,000 in grant funds to offset the financial impact of the coronavirus pandemic.

State Rep. Jennifer O’Mara Friday said the fire company and ambulance corps, along with other emergency service organizations, are getting a cut of $50 million in grants

Through Act 26, the state made funds available to fire and emergency medical services organizations that were affected by the pandemic. The funding can be used for operational and equipment expenses.

The Broomall Fire Company will get $25,068 and the Marple Ambulance Corps will get $15,048

"Congratulations to all these hardworking companies on their well-deserved awards,” said O’Mara, D-Delaware. "Like so many funding opportunities these days, self-advocacy and careful tedious paperwork is a big part of bringing in the money to keep a company ready — and most people don’t know that part of the job is another huge way these heroes are serving their communities."

As stated in Act 26, the money must be used for operational and equipment expenses. Eligible expenses include:

• Operational Expenses – such as but not limited to:
  • Utilities
  • Insurance
  • Apparatus Repairs/Fuel
  • Personal Protective Equipment
  • Lost Revenues due to Pandemic Restrictions
• Expenses for cleaning, sanitizing, and disinfecting of equipment and property or other expenses incurred to prevent the spread of communicable illnesses.

"Our fire, rescue and EMS are the first responders often on the front-lines of the COVID-19 pandemic,” Gov. Tom Wolf said. "All these professionals – some working as volunteers – give selflessly to support neighbors and communities. These CARES Act grants can assist in supporting them and their ongoing efforts to keep their neighbors and communities protected and safe."
