Check Smoke Detectors When You Adjust Clocks This Weekend: Newtown Square Fire Co.
When you spring ahead Sunday, put some new batteries in your smoke detectors to ensure you're ready in an emergency.

As the nation prepares to lose an hour of sleep on Sunday March 12, the Newtown Sqaure Fire Company wants you to not only change your clocks but to check smoke detectors, too.
“The most important event associated with the time change is the simple suggestion to add a fresh battery to the home’s smoke detectors," Newtown Square Fire Chief Doug Everlof said.
Everlof also recommended changing your detector if the plastic casing is getting "yellow."

“That coloring sign of aging plastic case is another sign this detector is near the end of its protective age," he said.
If you have an older model smoke detector, the fire company recommends replacing that with a 10-year battery powered safety watchdog smoke detector.
