The incident began at about 1:32 p.m. Wednesday when state police troopers were conducting stationary patrol in the Brinton Lake Shopping Center in Concord Township due to a recent series of retail thefts.

There, troopers saw a red Ford Taurus sedan that stayed at a stop sign for a significant period of time before parking in a location away from the stores.

Three or four people got out of the car and exited the vehicle and approached businesses in the center.

One of those people was believed to be involved in a previous retail theft at the shopping center, police said.

As a trooper approached the occupants in his unmarked patrol vehicle, they got back into the Ford Taurus and drove from the parking lot onto Brinton Lake Road.

Police said the vehicle had a tinted front windshield, expired inspection stickers, and a Delaware temporary paper registration obscured by a tinted license plate cover.

As the vehicle approached the intersection of Brinton Lake Road and Mill Road in Thornbury Township, troopers stopped the vehicle.

After stopping briefly, the vehicle sped off, prompting a seven-mile police pursuit that lasted about five minutes, authorities said.

The vehicle was seen speeding, driving into oncoming traffic, and using the shoulder to pass other vehicles, according to state police.

As the vehicle reached the Chichester Avenue overpass on Route 322 in Upper Chichester Township, it used the right shoulder to pass a vehicle.

That's when the vehicle lost control, went across all lanes, and hit a concrete bridge embankment along the left shoulder, catching on fire, police said.

Troopers on scene tried to remove passengers from the vehicle, while extinguishing the fire.

EMS was called to the scene, where the three adults were pronounced dead. An emergency C-Section was performed on the 17-year-old pregnant girl at a local hospital, but the unborn child was pronounced dead. The mother was later pronounced dead, police said.
