DELAWARE COUNTY, PA — Elected officials in Delaware County are joining the numerous voices in condemning the events that unfolded at the Capitol building in Washington DC Wednesday.

The Delaware County Council Thursday issued a statement regarding the brief siege of the Capital, led by supporters of President Donald Trump who believe the presidential election was riddled with voter fraud.

"Our country allows everyone to freely express their beliefs and protest peacefully," the statement reads. "However, what we witnessed in D.C. was not an expression of peaceful protesting. Violence is unacceptable."

The council reiterated that challenges to the election's outcome had been repeatedly denied, with no actual evidence of widespread voter fraud.

"The election may not have delivered the result sought by some, but that doesn’t entitle one to make up baseless allegations of fraud, which are repeatedly refuted with actual evidence, and then turn to violence because they are not getting the result they desire," the statement reads.

The statement went on to accuse Trump is being a demagogue and called behavior seen Wednesday, which led to four deaths — one of which was a woman shot by authorities while breaking through a door in the Capitol — shameful.

"The message to those who choose to behave this way: Act like our children are watching," officials said. "Because they ARE."
