Levy was charged in January 2023 with a slew of crimes after a December 28, 2022, incident at the entrance of Longwood Gardens in Kennett Township.

Levy served as a state trooper since February 2021 at the Troop K Media barracks in Delaware County. He has been suspended without pay, according to the DA's office.

With his conviction, authorities said it is expected Levy will no longer be a member of law enforcement, as Pennsylvania law prevents people convicted of serious misdemeanor offenses from serving as police officers.

"David Levy remains suspended without pay, pending termination of his employment based on the guilty plea," Pennsylvania State Police told Patch in an email.

According to the DA's office, while off-duty, Levy encountered the victim while driving southbound on Route 1 near Longwood Gardens.

Apparently upset with how the victim was driving, Levy interacted aggressively with the victim, braking abruptly in front of the victim and at one point forcing the victim’s vehicle off the road, authorities said.

The victim eventually stopped on the grass section of an exit-ramp leading to Longwood Gardens, the DA's office said.

That's when Levy tried to get his gun and angrily got out of his vehicle. While doing so, Levy accidentally fired his gun, shooting a round into the dashboard of his personal vehicle, according to authorities.

Levy went up to the victim’s car with his gun drawn, shouting commands, and referencing that he was "state police," the DA's office said.

When one of the passengers in the victim’s vehicle shouted that they were calling the police and that there was a dash camera in their vehicle, Levy immediately got into his car and left the area, authorities said.
