The mother of an 11-year-old student at Darby Township School said her son was forced to kneel and beg for his cellphone in front of others.

GLENOLDEN, PA — An investigation is underway after the mother of an 11-year-old boy said her son was forced to kneel and beg for his cellphone in front of a class of his peers.

According to Fox 29, 11-year-old Jahiir was humiliated by his math teacher when he was found using his cellphone in class.

The boy's mother, Taliyah Holmes, said her son was forced to kneel and beg in front of the whole class to get his phone back.

She said the family's religion forbids a man from kneeling before anyone but God.

According to the Delaware County Daily times, Southeast Delco School District Superintendent Brenda Wynder did not comment on the incident and said it is being investigated.

The outlet reports the Holmes has filed a complaint with police.

The Council on American-Islamic Relations Philadelphia Chapter is working with the Holmes family.
